How to replace the bulb on the dome light, 1953/1954

My 1953 Cavalier has a dome light that looks like the attached picture (though mine is of course installed in the car above the rear seat).
I cannot easily see how to check and/or replace the bulb, which is of course the first thing to do considering it doesn't light up. I don't want to take the assembly out - I cannot easily see how even to do that. There are no visible screws on the face, and I cannot see how to pop the plastic off. I don't want to break it, obviously.
P.S. I have seen some discussions on the courtesy switch, and Isee that there are 2 screws one can use to take it out.
