I am switching from bias ply tires to radials on my 1947 Clipper...I bought Diamondbacks. The tires arrived, I cleaned and painted the rims, and took everything to the installer.
While we were looking at everything, I found out from the tire installer I needed valve stems for a .625 rim hole. He did not have this odd size so I lost my appointment.
I found some at NAPA which were rubber and cost $2.19 for 4. Part number 90-415.
As I had time now that installation was delayed, I opted for metal as they are more resistant to blowout and more resistant to leaking air. Found them at Amazon for a little over $8 for 4:
VTR TR-416-S 1" Outer Mount Metal Valve Stem (4 Pack).
Of course we have to buy two packs as we all carry spare tires and need 5!! A bonus is they come with their own metal cap...a savings of $3.99..
Because of my irritating experience and loss of taking the car to a club function, I wrote Diamondback and urged them to caution customers to get valve stems when they order the tires.
Just passing this on issues to be addressed when making this change over.
