Voltage Regulators

I've been discussing voltage regulators with a company that makes a one-size-fits-all type and I pointed out that some had two mounting holes on one end and one on the other as theirs are while others had two on the connector edge and a single one at the top. Also some had all three electrical connectors on one side while others had one of them on the top and two at the bottom. Does anyone have photos or other details to help determine which is which and what had what?

From the 1948 to 1954 parts book these are the various regulator model numbers with what they fit but nothing shows the appearance. It's a tall order but I would like to know up to 1956 and possibly back to 1940 or so if anyone has the information.
