It's important to keep in mind that shop manuals and parts lists were very often composed and printed before actual production began and photos thus might well have originated from prototypes and mock-ups in studio situations. Thus they are not necessarily indicative of actual production. I'm not saying that is (or isn't) the case here, just something to keep in mind when looking at illustrations that preceded actual production.
