Where would one find correct fitting shocks with a spring assist?

There aren't any. You might be able to jimmy up some air shocks or coil overs but why bother?

A good spring shop should rearch your springs, install new sliders and bushings for around $200 bucks.

Coil overs will cost nearly as much and air shocks will cost more. This is one of the many cases where it is better and cheaper to do the job right.
