49 Deluxe Cowl/Firewall Weatherstrip

Hello!

Yesterday I repainted the cowl/top of the firewall after a very messy process of removing a piece of rubber that was in a partial molasses/partial rock phase that I can only assume was an effort to reform back into a living organism. Needless to say it had to be stopped.

With that done, is there supposed to be a strip there? I'm looking at pictures I've seen it both with and without. If it's supposed to be there, how long?
