Water manifold tube in 356 engine

after rebuilding the engine in detail. i am still not 100% content with the watertemperature. every water channel was cleaned with with a lot of care. the radiator is rebuild and one of the heaters is complete new. the engine is running without thermostat. i read somewhere that the water manifold, tube made of sheet metal, that is in the block, must look a little bit forward over the surface of the engine. in direction of the pump. this is important for the efficiency of the waterpump. but i can't remember where it is described in detail. does anyone know how far the pipe must be over the engine surface? i guess somethink like 0.12 inches? what do you think , best regards Josef
