I was curious as to why y'all kept referring to the Carter-2084-S, so I looked in my Packard carburetor list (came from here), and sure enough, it lists both carbs for that year.

After realizing this, I did a search on here and found this thread.

Yet, the site's Model Info pages shows either 985S or 2084S used on 26th Series cars with 4-bbl. carb.

The 48-54 parts book shows that the 985S was superseded by the 2084S. Not sure exactly when/why this change occurred, but after a quick scan of the details, I found different P/Ns for one air horn screw (likely the medium length one noted in overhaul instructions) and the low speed jets.


Pretty interesting stuff. Hopefully this clears up some info for someone in the future.
