I won't hurt either, so if you're an "authentic" type then keep it.
I think you can still get them.

Most positive displacement (PD) pumps have a flow pulse, and this is supposed to dampen those spikes, but flow's going into a fuel bowl or through a filter and that'll do the same thing. Won't affect performance as noted above.
