There is a small pin that goes in the hole with the head held in by the transmission. The spring attaches to a hole in the pin. I believe the hole diameter is 3/16" but do not remember the length of the pin that is needed. As I recall the end sticks out on the inside maybe 1/4 inch or so -- just enough the hole is exposed and you can get the spring loop in. If the pin has been lost it is an ordinary clevis pin that is available at many hardware stores.

I do hope you remembered to hold the pressure plate fingers with the 3/8 nuts as detailed in the service manual. Without them being compressed it can be a pain to get the fork and pressure plate back inside and bolted.
