Not sure if this applies, but it can't hurt. Somewhere on this site is a link to a YouTube that Ross posted showing the proper use of the three-on-the-tree shifting pattern and explaining why banging the thing like your old four-on-the-floor shifter is streng verboten. If I recall correctly, he was referring to binding the shift arms and hanging things up that way, but it stands to reason that anything of that nature would put undue pressure on things not designed for it. In short, use the actual H when shifting and don't try to angle it off, no matter how tempting.

This might contribute to a gum-'em-up repair's ability to last longer.
