Re: 51/54 parts compatibility?

You have a lot of possibilities here. I think the green 1951 Packard 200 in PA is a good builder. The body looks really straight, and the original interior appears to be useable as is, just give it a good cleaning.

The 1954 Packard will provide an engine. 1951-1954 200's and Clippers all used the same engines. It would be either the 288 CI base engine or the optional 327 CI. But in 1954, only the lowest price Clipper Special used the 288, the fancier Clipper Deluxe and Clipper Super models used the more powerful 327CI. It is hard to tell from the photos, but I think that the '54 parts car is either a Deluxe or a Super. Either way, you can't argue with free.

The two Packards being sold along with the 1950 Plymouth are a 1953 Clipper Deluxe and a 1953 Patrician. In 1953 and 1954, the fancier Clipper models had full length side trim. I once had a close friend who had the same model 1953 Packard and I recognized it right away.

The Patrician used a larger 9 main bearing Straight 8, so this one won't help you very much with the 200. Also, the Patrician was a longer, heavier car than the Clipper line and most of the trim is different. The '53 Clipper engine will work in the 200. It also has a nice set of taillights which are the same as on a 1951-1952 200.

I suppose you could take the engine from the 1949, but you wouldn't be able to use much of anything else as the 1951 Packard was a completely new car from the ground up.

Good luck with your project. Please post pictures of your progress.
