Not sure about using the 48-50 engine in a later model. You can use a 51 and later engine in the 49 because the front motor mount is on a plate that will bolt to the front of the block. I don't think the reverse is true with the 49 engine because of the change in mounts. I do not believe that block has the extra casting thickness and threaded holes on the sides of the block used for the 51 and later engine mounts.
