The 356, and 327 9-main bearing, engines have hydraulic valve lifters. These lifters are no longer made and are almost unobtainable. This is a critical decision point in buying a used 356 engine. But, if you can find a good one, they are great motors, as smooth as a turbine. Overall, they are the same length as their 288 and 327 siblings. Good luck.
