The reason for the special puller, that Owen describes. The axles are tapered, where they go into the drum. You need a good, heavy duty puller, to do the job. The drums usually come off with a bang.

Stay away from the cheap $50.00 one you see on the internet. mine cost $150.00 last year and I had to order it. Sometimes you see them used on Ebay.

If they accept JW's tip it might save you some grief. But if you intend to keep that car, sooner or later you will need that puller.
