Had Pertonix in my 51 200. When all was well it would start a bit quicker; no change in gas mileage. But if it was cold and the voltage dropped a hair from the strain of cranking it was absolutely no go. When I realized I was starting to look for hills to park the car on, out it came.

I am personally aware of at least 3 other failures.

Points really work quite well with a minimal bit of care. As Randy points out, many old point sets are oxidized; look terrific but won't pass current. Whenever I wake a sleeping beauty, or even a sleeping ugly, I always fold up a bit of 600 grit sandpaper and work it through the points followed by some white paper to catch the debris.
