Common sense warned as much, but, as usual in these situations, the quickest way to determine something was the riskiest. Fortunately the test went off without a hitch and showed that the pump is for some reason getting lazy shortly after being started, and goes back to normal after cooling down. I still haven't had a chance to call to check about exchange.
