Just a couple more notes. The engine paint was applied with a brush as it was still in the car, and I thinned the paint a little bit before brushing. The manifolds were sprayed as they were removed from the engine, so I could spray it from all sides.

On the sheet metal parts (valve covers, timing cover, etc) I sprayed those with primer first. That is not required on the cast parts (block, head, etc).

Everything (block, head, manifolds, covers, etc) was stripped clean of rust, grease, and old paint before any of this was done. See my project blog for more details.
