Use a pure nickle rod.

I would drill it oversized from the back side and then turn a thin wall tube to fit and with the correct sized hole through the center. Put that in the hole and fill in your void with weld. this does two things, it gives you something to weld to instead of just glopping it on and it also gives you a finished hole so you aren't trying to drill through hard spots from welding.
