The bar should be straight. If there is enough of a bend, it could cause your problem. Tech bulletin 55T-1 available on site details what the expected height would be and how to measure. Also mentions a couple of other causes which could result in uneven height.

To change the bar is not terribly hard compared to other pieces but there are a couple of things to be aware of. First, to make things a lot easier you should get the special drag link socket as shown in this post.packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb ... ic.php?post_id=36002#forumpost36002 The plugs could be very well staked and difficult to remove without the proper size tool. Even with the tool, they can be a challenge.

The other important thing is to support the frame on jackstands and be able to work in a condition where you can raise or lower the rear axle or run the compensator as needed to take the load off the link before you try to remove it. You will know the load is off when you can grab the transverse bar and twist it without too much effort. Because of the bend it may not be possible to remove it all but try. Any load present will make things more difficult in getting the plugs out.
