If it is a stock solenoid there is a repair kit available. Here is Napa info but it may be available from other places.

Unless you were cranking the engine a long time the solenoid should not get that hot unless internal contacts are not making good connections and it is need of a rebuild. Hopefully it was just reflected heat from manifold. If an electrical problem caused the heat you should have been noticing some other issues such as a burning bakelite or plastic smell etc.
