Good question on value. I'd be interested in hearing what others think too. IMO, It would depend on completeness or if it needed work and parts and if someone was really looking for a total period correct item vs having a modern more efficient repro unit that looks reasonably appropriate for the time. Parts for those old units are almost extinct and not many places will undertake a repair.

Nothing like it shows in a book I have on early AC history containing some photos of 50s units. Having the fan instead of a blower it looks like it may be from fairly early in the 50s-- I have some MarkIV photos from the mid to late 50's and into early 60s. One unit on a 56 Packard appears to have a fan so yours may be older or at least the same age. Later units all appear to have blowers.

Did it come off a Packard and do you have the rest of the components or just the evaporator? There were some custom mfg'd units back in those days so it could also be specific to a particular car or region.
