Re: An open letter to all who might work on a 1956 Packard with pushbutton shifting

When I am not fully-familiar with the condition of a Packard that's equipped with pushbutton shift, I always turn the key to the "run" position and push each button, in succession, to see how things sound with the shift actuator BEFORE I even attempt to crank it over.

Still, there are no guarantees that all else is well inside the tranny, and even the best wheel chock won't stop a runaway car. One might do well to jack up the rear axle and lower it onto a couple of sturdy jack stands so that the drive wheels are off the ground.
