Re: Fitment of 35 amp alternator and vacuum pump to 1956 Patrician

G'day all, Well, I have been doing a lot more with sorting out the 35Amp Alternator/Vacuum pump which I fitted to the 56 Patrician.
ALTERNATOR: The alternator is a Mitsubushi 300A12V35A, internally regulated and it fitted in the same location as the generator, used the same mounting bracket with a spacer to match. I used the same fan belt and belt tension adjuster. The electrical connection does not involve any cutting of the original wiring.
WIRING: The original generator armature wire goes to the BATT terminal on the alternator, the generator ground wire goes to the ground point on the alternator. At the original regulator the GEN terminal wire is transferred to the BATT connection on the regulator. Field for the alternator is from the front seat relay, which is active when the Ignition is ON. There are no other wiring changes required.
VACUUM PUMP: This is a very optional addition but I believe that it is worth it. I used it in parallel with the original sump vacuum pump and it works very well. I have changed the oil inlet of the vane pump to the outlet from the filter and use a 30 thou restrictor to control the flow to the vane pump. The air dump from the vacuum pump I have directed into the oil fill filter mechanism. I am currently using a bleed from this new pump to scavenge ultramatic oil leakage from the converter bell housing into a recovery container. No more drips on the driveway. I have included a few pics of the set-up, which i may or may not keep. Notice also the radiator hose filter and a pressure gauge measuring back pressure on the twin ultra cooling line, to which i have fitted a 10 micron magnetic in-line filter. I have also fitted a remote filler for the BTV. Best regards peter Toet
