Ok. I looked it up. According to the 1989 FACTORY AUTHORIZED Chev service manual the 305 Vin "Y" has stepped cam journals. All others including 350 has only ONE diameter specified for cam journal size. There was a mid 70's 260 V8 that was used in pontiac too that had one size.

I'll try to double check the 327 and 283 bibles.


On the Packard cam bearings;
The service manual gives very little info on the actual process of replacing the cam bearings. It mite be advisaeable to install the REAR AND FRONT cam bearings BEFORE installing the center cam bearings.

Installing the front and rear cam bearings first will help to keep the others in better alignment. Try the cam into the new bearings (front and rear installed only) to determine any binding. Then proceed with other more central cam bearings.

Maybe JV can give more detail on the installation. The manual gives nearly no info and no pic of tool that i can find.
