I'll jump in since those schematics seem to have started a good discussion. I believe the toggle switch is about the only way to do the bypass. I was trying to come up with a relay fix but wound up thinking along the same lines. Trying to figure where to put a switch or how to disguise it now. Originally thought a miniature switch might fit in the relay case but a no go.

The white wire was a change because they already had a yellow wire going to the same relay after the elimination of the control relay. The fuse is because the fingers and PBs are fed directly off the ign switch. Apparently Packard didn't realize or worry about that when they first eliminated the control relay. Any shorted wire or bent fingers and you get the full unfused current from the battery thru the ign switch. That must have caused some excitement for someone at one point for them to come out with the change. Also, because of where they took the feed at the ballast resistor, a burned wire could cause lots of ancillary damage to the main loom.
