56 Ultramatic Torque Converters

My mechanic opened up the torque converter on my 56 Patrician and found a mess. Years ago I heard of a "wavey washer" that would give out and pretty well ruin the converter. Maybe that is what happened.


At any rate, I need either a lot or parts or another converter. A rebuilt one is about $800. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

It is my understanding that the 55 and 56 converters are not interchangable.
