A good question and maybe someone has an answer. I always thought it was a lower cost item and was used to keep mfg costs down. When you consider having to add a dual chamber fuel pump or other secondary vacuum source plus the extra plumbing and labor to hook it all up, there wouldn't seem to be much savings. Lowly Studebaker was also using electric at the time expensive Packard was using vacuum so maybe there is another reason.

I'm sure you would get called out at any quality show if you changed the motor.
