55 air dam or bug deflectors??????

Look at the TOP edge of grill. Just inboard of the torpedo bumper gaurds is what appears to be a black crecent shaped sort of air dam on each side. Or am i just looking at it wrong????https://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=4055&cid=57
