V-8 head part nbr vs cast nbr

Guys:

I searched the database and forums and did not see this topic anywhere. Here's what I have so far:

Part Nbr, Casting nbr, Original application (from parts book)
440690, 440689, 5540 early
440855, 440854, 5540 late
440690, ???, 5560-80
6480407, 6480406, All 56

My 55 Pat 352 had 440854 on it when I replaced them with 56 big valve (6480406).

My 56 Clipper Super 352 has 440854 on it, not 6480406.

One of my 56 400 374 (parts car, 5687- on block) has 440854 on it, not 6480406. The other of my 56 400 374 (restorable, 5687- on block) has 6480406 on it.

I realize that near the end of V-8 production maybe some engines were not produced 'to spec'. Also, over the years, who knows what swaps were made.

I would like to complete the information about what head originally came on what year/model/size engine. When we get this figured out, I'll write up an HTML table and email it to Big Kev for posting in the right place on this website.

Craig
