Hi, Brian,

As to the main bearing problems on the SBC caused by lockup torque converters and computers which lug the engine, that opinion comes from the largest engine rebuilder in the northwest. They have been doing more than fifty SBCs a week for fifty years. They said they never saw crank or main bearing problems until they started getting cores run in front of lockup converters. Conversely, they say these days, cylinders are hardly worn at all. The EFI does such a good job, they could just hone the bores and re-ring them. They always overbore, because the customer demands it, needed or not.

I mentioned the possibility of a link because Packard's T-U was the first lockup auto trans.

thnx, jack vines
