55?-56 power steering gear box

need info,

have play in steering wheel, what controls that?, I did turn the screw on top many years ago, I know there are shims, do I need to take them out?, or add somewhere else,

re ultra, Gerry pac sw drove 400 last night, just around the block, see if he responds, it was late, so next time longer trip,

but I need to deal with play,,,to much over correcting,
