That is what happens when people try to remove the bezel using a screwdriver or needle tip pliers instead of the tool.

The hex nut is a stamped affair and held into the bezel by a piece of sheet metal. The metal piece appears to have been placed in a recess in the bezel and then the bezel crimped around the sheetmetal holding both pieces in position

I don't know of any way to repair the nut or to retain it once removed from the bezel. Possibly a layer of JB Weld covering a wide area into the bezel would hold the sheetmetal piece again if a way was found to restore the hex but I wouldn't bet money on it. I expect you will need to find one in decent condition. Mike Dulinski or Seattle Packards probably has a good used bezel. Gerry at Packards Southwest might too.

There is a subtle difference between Packard and Clipper bezels. Packard has a somewhat brushed or slightly dulled area over the lettering giving a bit of contrast to the body while Clippers are all shiny chrome.
