Removing Stainless Steel Trim Piece

The right rear lower stainless steel trim piece on the car has a small dent in it. I want to remove it so I can hammer it out and polish it. I can get to some of the clips that hold it on the car, but there on some that are not readily accessible. What is the best way to remove the trim piece without messing up the car's paint or damaging the trim piece?
