1955 Packard

Welcome back, I missed you.
I have spent way too much time trying to get this spring clip to lock into place over the square rubber end bushing, and have broken off one of the top tabs on both clips. Any suggestions??
After 10 years of work in progress I am about to refill the dry, 1955 400 Ultramatic, after having the parking pawl replaced. Serious consideration is being given to using Tractor Supply (Traveler) multi purpose ATF suitable for use in place of Dextron 111 or Mercon. Good?? or bad idea?? any better alternatives?
Finally the attached photo shows the steering column/steering wheel spring. Below which is a rivet shaped pin and spring. It has been a couple of years since the picture was taken. I may have combined these parts for some reason, but can not recall why. Anyone out there know where this pin and spring fits?

Could not figure out how to attach picture, please help with other problems.
