I used an STP SA192 filter element to convert the oil bath type air cleaner to a modern pleated paper type in my formerly owned 1955 Clipper Super.
I used the top of an Edelbrock after market air cleaner to secure the top of the SA192. A short nipple held the top of the Edelbrock top in place when the top of the original filter top was tightened.
In the first photo the more shallow filter element is the one that came with the Edelbrock. I did not use this one, nor the bottom plate that came with it.
No cutting was needed. I saved the center part of the original in case a future owner wanted to change back to an oil bath.
Maybe the photos will explain it better. One of the photos is a bit fuzzy, but should show well enough all the pieces used.
