Nice idea on the rust remover + hardware combo. I'll keep that in mind for mine.

Of note, for large stuff that's not particularly fragile, it's cheaper to just use muriatic/hydrochloric acid. However, the acid will slowly eat away at the metal itself so you can't just let it sit for days. Pour it in in the morning and check it after 10mins, ½hr, 1hr, then every couple hours throughout the day until you've reached the desired level of corrosion removal, then remove.

Another advantage to acid is it removes all corrosion, not just ferrous, and it's faster.
