One thing that may help but not solve your problem is to rainx your windshield. It will make the wiper blades move easier and allow less effort on the part of your wiper motor. Obviously this is not a fix but it's something that will help and bead up water to provide clarity when driving.
 
My 56 400 had been converted to electric wipers by the previous owner. This had no effect on the charging system and worked flawlessly for many years. I believe he used a wiper motor off of a late 50's Chevy. If you do some searching on the forum you will see that there's others that have used it. The only drawback is it does not clear the large factory air cleaner. The air cleaner can still be installed but it will be cocked on an angle.
