1956 Patrician trunk hinge

Hi,
One of the pieces fell off the trunk hinge on my 1956 Patrician. It looks like there is a pin that goes through a bracket (that con move freely) which then goes through a backing plate that it is pressed into. The issue is that over time, the hole in the backing plate has become bigger, and the pin pops out. Now that the hole is too big, what is the best way to secure it? I have tried with a snap ring, and thought about replacing the pin with a bolt and nut, but I don't think that is the right solution. It seems like what is needed is to secure the pin to the backing plate. Would jb-weld work for this? Or how about fixing it by spot welding the pin to the plate? The bracket needs to be able to move freely. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

John
