why do you have two door switches on this door? mine only had one on each side.....

That's a running change which carried on into 1956 for those models with the exterior running light. There are actually 3 variations to be seen; 2 punched holes containing 2 switches, 2 punched holes with 1 switch and one hole blanked off, and lastly a modified stamping with only one punched hole and thus just 1 switch. I've observed all 3 styles on the 56 Caribbean convertibles and would guess the same could be said for other body styles.

I believe the wiring diagrams show 1 switch for the interior courtesy light and another for the exterior running light but at some point their function was combined. On the 56 Carib convertibles, cars thru at least #29 have 2 switches, those thru at least #205 have l switch and one blanked off hole, and thereafter just a single switch and the modified door jam stamping with but a single hole. Not enough data to pin it down any finer. Perhaps others have developed similar data for the other body styles.
