The following pic is typical of all modern production disk brake set ups i've encounterd.
The green line is the radial centre line of the rotor. The yellow line shows the support area of the caliper-stay relative to the caliper. Note how the caliper-stay anchors the caliper at the CENTRE LINE of the rotor. NOT JUST way off to one side.
