Inside rear view mirror

The 'day/night' lever on my inside rear view mirror only stays in one position. That is when you select 'night', it instantly snaps back to it's previous 'day' position. Is that a repairable item and if so, can anyone tell me how to fix this? I would attempt it now, but I don't want to break it beyond repair. Thanks in advance for any information about this.
