It's a matter of opinion whether installing new lifters is easier than installing a new oil pump. I'd call that a draw at best.

Installing new lifters on a used cam is inviting one or more wiped cam lobes. Now you've got a much bigger problem.

Noisy lifter(s) are probably an indication of low oil pressure. This can happen at idle (500 rpm). I've had several satisfied Packard V-8 Olds oil pump & adapter kit users tell me that their oil pressure at hot idle with the stock oil pump was ZERO. After installing the new pump, it was 20PSI. Doesn't sound like a high rpm "racing application" situation to me.
