OK, so the OEM tire for a 1941 120 is 700x15.
The 700R/15 is made to fit the following sizes: 700, 800 and 820. Did you see the link I provided to page 17? I have added it here:
http://www.dbtires.com/2011_catalog/hi/17.htm Notice that the width of the 700R/15 tire is 7.7" - that sounds awfully close to the 7.60 used on the '55s and '56s to me.
The 700R15 also taller than the metric radials and probably closer to the OEM bias-ply height. This might alleviate the speedo correction issue.
