Think the chokes have an electrically operated element which basically works the same as the hot air type only the heat is supplied by voltage on a heating coil. Looks like the red wire is running up to the ign ballast area to pick up voltage.

Only seen a couple of aftermarket installations but those I've seen run thru an oil pressure activated switch to keep choke from operating or starting to cycle as soon as ign is turned on. The engine has to start and develop oil pressure to close the switch before the choke will start doing it's thing. I believe the length before full open is somewhat adjustable.
