Not sure what you're referring to as decreasing in size but yours looks correct as far as shape. There was a different number between 55 and 56 though. Here is one off a 56 and there was no woven shield in either year such as the duals used.

This one appears to be 1/4" steel tubing. The carb end has a flare although the nut appears to be the type more commonly seen with compression fittings instead of flares. The manifold end will be the hard one to duplicate precisely. It has a stop ridge 1/2" from the end & not sure how you could make that. Otherwise, it is plain tubing and just slides into the manifold choke tube up to the ridge as Cli55er mentioned.
