Howard, I've seen engines that apparently run for decades without the tube. Please don't get me wrong, all I'm trying to say is that the tube isn't existential.


Absolutely true and it was a later retrofit addition as well. Packard suggested adding it to earlier models but undoubtedly not done to many 356 engines. I'm just saying that if someone is going to the trouble to bolt it on the car, at least it could be installed correctly so it would have a fighting chance to do what it was supposed to.
