Hmmm weird. I am using IE 7, under XP, on broadband, and it works fine. No one else has mentioned having a similar problem. I know that text box uses java, I wonder if that could be the cause on your side. You can always type up the text in notepad/word and paste in it. Not sure what is causing the issue you are seeing.
