I know some don't like JB weld so that is why I suggested the second option of drilling and filing. I don't use it for anything structural or around heat but figured it would work to increase surface area. The cutout punches and tools are mostly mfg only these days and as you said, the mechanical switch and old radio shops are scarce so even those are going by the wayside.

How hard does the switch turn or I guess the better question is how hard is the detent to turn it on and what is the range -- does it go Off - Hi - Lo in detents and then remainder of circle for the intermittent or is it a single detent off and then just potentiometer like an old radio volume switch?

I was wondering if there was some way to have the original cable operate it with a lever or gear rack and pinion or are the detents too hard. The regular switch was fairly hard so I had to come up with something else when I did my mod.
