Between 1962 and 1970 my brother and I used our 53-56 BTV equipped Packards almost exclusively, probably 10 of them. I'm guessing we covered 125,000 miles total. Never had a failure. Also the ten's of millions of BTV equipped cars of 1952-1960 which were used as daily transportation back then, as far as we know, did not have failures often as your experience shows.

While using my 52 low mileage Patrician from 1973-present we had to rebuild it once, no failures, Dan's 55 Carib same thing, no failures. So no, I'm not putting a stick in my eye just putting my trust in 2 things, Bendix engineering and our rebuilding abilities. I do not put ABS, fuel injection, side itrusion beams or the hundreds of modern items in my cars, I believe in originality.

As scientists/engineers we look for causes and then look to remedy them. Giving up and throwing thing in the trash is not part of our methodology. I'm sure you were very frustrated

Keep in mind packardinfo has 1000's of members and it took about 3 years for someone to submit a unit for evaluation.
What we found was no surprise.
